Angel J. Rivas
Angel is an actor/writer based out of Montclair, New Jersey. He is currently in his last year at Montclair State University, working towards his BFA in Theater with a concentration in Acting. He took up writing his freshman year because he wanted to tell stories. Specifically, the stories of the unheard. The stories that live in the low-income gentrified cities and towns; much like the one he grew up in. His goal is to tell stories through the lens of his Hispanic people and to shed light on a community that you don’t see that much of in the theatre.

Love Lost
This intimate play is one of the first plays that I wrote. I wrote it way back in freshman year, and didn’t touch it till this summer. It’s a story about two individuals who love each other deeply but can’t find a way to make it work. I drew from past relationships of mine, but also those I observed going through life. Love is a weird thing and to many couples, it’s not always perfect. There’s a push and pull that comes with love and that’s really what I wanted to explore with this play. I owe a lot of my return to this play, to the Storyteller Studio. It kept me inspired and reminded me that you need to keep writing to really get to the end. After showcasing my play Drought with the Storyteller Studio, and getting feedback, I was able to go back in and really get to the point with Love Lost.
